Poughkeepsie, New York is the city of my birth. I served four terms as her mayor from age 27. REALTOR.com has just published an article about cities with a rise in popularity and one of the three featured is my home town. I had served four terms as its mayor, beginging at age 27. A journalist called me a few years ago, writing about the time I served and the changes that had taken place. I helped preserve historic residential districts and also caused a good deal of new development, most of which I was proud of and some of which I would like another chance to get just right. There was a final question: How did I feel after all the years? I said, "A mayor can leave where he was born and was privileged to lead, but you'll never take that place from his heart."
My heart is full today.
